Product details

Background & context

The 8.8 cm Flak 18 was built as an anti-aircraft gun, but it made its name on the ground. A high muzzle velocity and a carriage that allowed the barrel to be depressed a long way made it a feared anti-tank weapon in Spain and then in North Africa, often at ranges at which Allied tanks could not shoot back. Its weakness was its size: tall, wide, hard to hide and unable to move under its own power. That job fell to the Sd.Kfz.7, a half-track tractor that carried the crew along as well.

On the tabletop

With the 8.8 cm Flak, the Sd.Kfz.7 half-track tractor and four crew you build a German gun team in 1:76. Designed as an anti-aircraft gun, the eighty-eight was feared above all as an anti-tank weapon in North Africa. In a diorama you uncouple the gun and place the crew beside it, or leave it hitched to the tractor on the march. On the gaming table it stands with other 1:76 vehicles as a heavy weapon that takes up a lot of room and is hard to hide.
