    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Voltigeurs were the light infantry of Napoleon's line regiments and were integrated into every infantry battalion from 1804 onwards. As agile skirmishers, they opened engagements, disrupted enemy formations, and skillfully used the terrain for cover. Between 1805 and 1812, they fought in almost all of Napoleon's major campaigns - from Austerlitz and Jena to the battles of the Iberian Peninsula. Their characteristic uniform with a yellow collar, yellow epaulettes, and the distinctive shako with a pompom made them unmistakable on the battlefield. As an elite unit within the light infantry, the Voltigeurs enjoyed particular prestige in the Grande Armée.
