Without supplies every army grinds to a halt. The M54A2 is Rubicon's 1:56 kit of the heavy US five-tonner from the M39 series, which carried ammunition, rations and whole squads along the dirt roads of Vietnam.

Background & context

From the early fifties the M39 family was the standard heavy truck of the US armed forces, and the M54 was its pure cargo version. In Vietnam the entire supply effort depended on these vehicles: convoys on Highway 1, ammunition runs to remote firebases, troop movements at dawn. Because convoys were a favourite target for ambushes, many trucks were given a ring mount above the cab and sandbags under the seats. Besides the Army and the Marines, the Navy, the Air Force and South Vietnamese units also ran the series.

On the tabletop

The M54A2 is the heavy five-ton truck of the M39 series, used by the US Army, the Marines and South Vietnamese forces to run their supply in the Vietnam War. On the table it is at the centre of convoy and ambush scenarios, loaded with ammunition and rations or with soldiers on the bench seat. An M2HB on the ring mount above the cab is optional and lets the truck defend itself against attacks. You choose cab canvas or hard top, cargo tarpaulin and tailgate during assembly, and a driver is included.
