    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Red Army's armored forces underwent a remarkable development between 1941 and 1945 - from the chaotic retreat of the early years to the mighty tank "roller" of the final offensives. The T-34/76 is considered one of the most produced and influential tanks of the war, while the KV-1 and IS-2 were primarily used as breakthrough vehicles against heavily fortified positions and enemy heavy tanks. The combination of these types reflects the Soviet doctrine of deep armored operations, which became the dominant form of combat on the Eastern Front from Kursk in 1943 onward.
